Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can you turn around a report?

Turnaround depends on the scope of the examination. We can discuss your timeline during the initial consultation and expedite when needed for upcoming hearings. We will always make room for your case in a time crunch.

Do you work with both prosecution and defense?

Vanguard Digital Forensics focuses primarily on serving defense attorneys and their clients. This allows us to specialize in identifying weaknesses in prosecution forensics and presenting objective analysis that benefits the accused. While we may occasionally consult on civil matters, criminal defense is our primary focus.

How do I send you the evidence?

Physical devices can be shipped via tracked, insured courier, delivered in person, or we can pick it up. For digital evidence files (such as existing forensic images or extraction reports), we provide a secure transfer method. We document chain of custody throughout the process and can work with evidence under court seal or protective order. For CSAM cases we will go to the location where the prosecution has the evidence stored and view it there.

Do you work for public defender rates?

Yes. Will will work for any state set public rates. In Oregon we have been accepted by OPDC and have established a rate with them.

What does the free consultation include?

The initial consultation is a 15–30 minute phone or video call where we review the digital evidence issues in your case, explain how forensic analysis might help, answer your preliminary questions, and discuss a proposed scope of work and fee structure. There's no obligation to proceed.
